HAPPY NEW YEAR!

In just a few short hours, the ball will drop in Times Square ringing in 2013!

Since my boys were little, I have always enjoyed finding or creating fun crafts to do with them on New Year’s Eve.  I would always plan enough activities to keep them up until the ball would drop.  As they got older, we would play games. I will miss all the fun.

I was cruising Pinterest and found some fun things I would have enjoyed with the boys.  I have put together some of the pictures with the links to help someone with a last minute plans.
Treat bags are always fun!  Fill with fun pads, crayons, bubbles, play doh, etc.  Kids love fun bags.

We have decorated plain sugar cookies in the past.  I bought tubes of decorator icing and various kinds of sprinkles.  The boys loved it.

Nothing feels more special than a toast! I hope you can take these ideas and make them your own.

It will be the first year without our host Dick Clark.  I have been watching Dick Clark’s New Year’s Eve for as long as I can remember.  He was always there to ring in the New Year.  We will miss you Dick Clark.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Christmas Couture

Christmas Couture

Last minute fashion disaster?  Need something to wear, but can’t seem to put an outfit together?  Been there, done that.  Back in the day (before internet – Pinterest), we would stand in the closet looking for something and calling a friend asking, “Do you have . . .?”

I was looking at Pinterest and thought I would share some cute outfits.  If you are stuck for an idea, maybe one of these will help.

Custom Leopard Print Bulletin Board

Custom Leopard Print Bulletin Board

I had never thought of this until a friend asked me to paint a bulletin board to match her niece’s new comforter set.  I told her to send me a picture of the comforter and I would see what I could do.  I enjoyed doing this project and thought it would be something I could do for anyone that had a desire for a customized bulletin board.

This is the picture she sent me.

When I saw it I thought, Wow! That’s a lot of business.  But I assured her I could do it.  So I set to customizing a bulletin board to match this cute comforter.

I painted the rainbow colors onto the board.  I used metallic acrylic paints.  I just swooshed (if that’s a technique) the paints across the board.

The colors turned out beautiful!  Good so far!  Now to start the leopard print.  I didn’t exactly know how to draw a leopard print, so to the internet I went.  Finally, I just blew up the picture my friend had sent me and printed it.  I used clear plastic to make a template by tracing the leopard spots.  Then I traced around each print onto the board.  (Yes.  I traced each and every single leopard spot)

If you look closely, you can see my small plastic leopard spots.  I randomly moved them around and traced.  After they were traced, I filled in with black acrylic paint.

She wanted “I’m A Star” on the board.  I did the lettering in black.  As you can see, the more spots I painted the more camouflaged the lettering appeared.  Hmm.  What to do.  Since I had used metallic paints, I thought to do the lettering in silver metallic.

Voila!  I’m A Star customized bulletin board is complete!  I really did enjoy doing this and would definitely consider more in the future.  It would be fun to paint a zebra stripe.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Tickled Pink

The past few weekends, Danny and I have been treasure hunting.  We were out of town at a ballgame and decided to stop at a couple of yard sales (of course).  At one stop I found a couple of pink items.  And since then, I have found several pink pieces.
La Ronde Peach China by Fitz & Floyd
It says “peach”, it looks pink to me.

This cute little pitcher has no markings.

This candle vase is absolutely stunning.  It is such a delicate piece.  The bottom half is hollow.  It has a molded insert big enough for a candle.  I have never seen a piece like this.
This cutie has 24 kt gold accents.

The flowers are a pretty pop of pink.

Liz Claiborne bag.

More pink flowers.

Pink rosettes on a pair of ashtrays.

Pink Melmac sugar bowl and small bowl.
I hope you enjoy the pink as much as I did finding it.
